Paying Twitter Blue users were some of the loudest voices driving those narratives. These accounts can earn money from tweets — meaning they could profit from sharing viral rumours and lies.
- Microsoft Bing’s built-in AI wrongly claims that Benjamin Cohen was identified as carrying out the Bondi Junction attack. It cites a website that wrote about (false) Twitter rumours and a 7NEWS YouTube video that’s no longer available.
- It appears as though 7NEWS incorrectly reported the name of the Bondi Junction perpetrator, incorrectly claiming that it was another, uninvolved individual whose name had been circulating on social media. I’ve contacted 7 for comment #BondiJunction
